Impressions from the 6th annual Bicycle Music Festival, the largest 100% bicycle-powered music festival in the world, at Old Cabin Meadow in Golden Gate Park, SF. The human-powered P/A system, which besides being the most fun and green way to amplify a live concert, also transforms every song into an audience participation song, and radically democratizes the concert-goer experience (the power to amplify the people onstage rests entirely in the will of the people offstage; democracy at its healthiest you might say!).

Window at Artist Television Access on Valencia Street in San Francisco protesting the sudden shutdown of 34-year-old college radio station KUSF. Listeners were in for a shock on January 18, 2011, when University of San Francisco (USF) shut down the transmitter without warning during the middle of a volunteer DJ’s show, the locks on the station doors were changed, and KUSF volunteers were escorted out. In the days and weeks following the sudden shutdown details emerged about the complex deal that resulted in Classical Public Radio Network (CPRN) taking control of KUSF’s broadcast. The FCC will most likely approve this sale, as their post—Telecommunications Act of 1996 policies have facilitated rampant consolidation in the radio industry.
